Culture in the Workplace in 2018 and Beyond

In 2018 and beyond more employees will be looking for a better work environment and work life balance.

Culture is defined as “the arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively”.

Work place culture is more about the team of people, rather than the odd team bonding exercise or putting a pool table in the office; employees want more than that. They want to be respected as equals, they want to tread the same path as one another and feel they have a stake in the successes and future of the company. Transparency, is key. Giving every stakeholder the road map of the journey we are on (we believe that everyone in our organisation is a stakeholder in some way).

A good work place should also allow the voice of everyone. It should relish the chance to hear, debate and connect with employees. We want our people to feel heard, to grow them and support them. We want to nurture them as individuals and business people and celebrate in their successes.

Outdated brands or business owners usually create a secretive workplace where only the select few understand the direction, and these same ideas then trickle down to employees. This creates tension and invariably puts one person against the other. Rather than moving as one you create a big gorilla mentality with the less advanced withering without the support they deserve. Sales people then become dollar driven rather than people focused and you fall into the classic 1980 real estate agent cliché.

Real estate is much more than managing/selling property and chasing deals. It’s about connecting with people, either clients or employees and enriching their lives for the better.
